Here’s what’s happening:

·         TUTORING

·         VIOLIN will now be offered every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning on January 10th.

·         EXPLORATIONS IN ART continues on Mondays.

·         LEGOS Robotics will be continuing, targeting students in grades 4-8. Dates for the afterschool sessions have not yet been established but enrollment will soon be opening for 20 students on a first come first served basis.

Keep-in-mind these activities are all part of the ‘after school’ program; although the district requests a fee for these services the fee can be waived or you may pay a lesser amount.  If you have any questions or ideas for this program please contact Mrs. Thompson or Mrs. Love through the school office or at lthompson@morristowneld75.org or mlove@morristowneld75.org .

Sports and much, much more.

The After School Program still has some financial challenges.  After being open through grants and donations since 1989, the current source of support includes the 21st CCLC grant, donations to the After School Gift Fund and the Extra Curricular Tax Credit Fund. The challenge for the school is coming up with the cost of keeping the building open.

EXTRA SPECIAL CREDIT

In 1997 the State Legislature passed a bill that allows an individual to deduct as a credit, fees paid to schools for extracurricular activities.

Specfically:
  • Allows a $200 state tax credit for any household
  • This credit against any liability NOT a deduction from income. You get the $200.00 back or do not have to pay it, depending upon how you file.
  • The funds must be used towards extra curricular activities
  • Schools can accept unlimited funds

Any individual may donate up to $200 (a couple filing jointly may donate up to $400.00) to be paid as an extracurricular fee for the purpose of taking the tax credit. It is a transfer of revenue from the Department of Revenue to the local schools.

    Proposed Use of Funds

Check out Highlights of the School's Technology Program

The homework help aspect of the After School program is enhanced by technology. This feature was highlighted in an article by the Rodel foundation.

The school received a Technology Renovation Grant a couple of years ago, allowing each classroom to have a state of the art pc unit in addition to the units in the rooms already.

The Phoenix Lodge #2 Knights of Pythias continue to fund the milk program in the after school program. Kids Kaffe from the West Side Food Bank can no longer provide snacks for children in the after school program. Parent and community donations of sealed snacks would be greatly appreciated. Individually packaged snacks would be even better.

Our free and reduced lunch count went down. This is one of the criteria that shows need in an area. If you think you are eligible, please apply.
We are looking for other sources to keep the program open. Donations to the Extra Curricular Tax Credit Fund could provide these funds.
