AFTER SCHOOL FEE OR DONATION TO THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM CAN BE CLAIMED AS A TAX CREDIT ON YOUR TAXES
In 1997 the State Legislature passed a bill that allows an individual to deduct as a credit fees paid to schools for extracurricular activities.
Specifically:
tAllows a $400 state tax credit for a couple and $200 for an individual
tThis credit is against any liability NOT a deduction from income
tThe funds must be used towards extra-curricular activities
tSchools can accept unlimited funds
Any individual may donate up to $200 & $400 for couples to be paid as an extracurricular fee for the purpose of taking the tax credit.It is a transfer of revenue from the Department of Revenue to the local schools.
