English 11 American Literature

This course will include the study of American literary works in the form of novels, short stories, drama and
poetry. Additionally, the class will address vocabulary, grammar, rhetoric and methods for essay writing, research, and argumentation. Finally, the course will focus on examining the themes of literature from various critical perspectives, discerning between the world’s wisdom and thinking that is in accordance with God’s truth.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to conduct in-depth analysis of  literature (both in
discussion and writing) relating their understanding of form, literary devices, historical context, recurrent patterns and themes, social commentary, varying schools of literary criticism etc.
